RIO DE JANEIRO, May 14 (Xinhua) -- Keno and Samuel Xavier scored second-half goals as Fluminense reached the Copa Sudamericana knockout stage with a 2-0 home win over 10-man Union Espanola on Wednesday.
The Chilean club suffered a blow in the 29th minute when Ignacio Nunez was shown a straight red card for bringing down Jhon Arias in the area.
Everaldo's penalty was saved by goalkeeper Franco Torgnascioli, but Fluminense broke the deadlock shortly after halftime when Keno headed in following Arias' cross.
Xavier doubled the advantage 13 minutes from time with a composed finish into the far corner from a tight angle.
The result at the Maracana Stadium leaves the Brazilian side top of Group F with 10 points from five games, a point ahead of Colombia's Once Caldas, which has a game in hand.
Union Espanola is last in the group with just two points and without hopes of advancing to the competition's next phase.
Elsewhere in the Copa Sudamericana on Wednesday, Cruzeiro won 2-1 at home to Palestino, Vitoria prevailed 1-0 at Cerro Largo, Atletico Grau drew 1-1 at Sportivo Luqueno and Defensa y Justicia was held to a 1-1 home draw by Universidad Catolica. ■
