MONTEVIDEO, May 14 (Xinhua) -- Five-time champion Penarol recovered from two goals down to secure a place in the Copa Libertadores round of 16 with a 3-2 home victory over Olimpia on Wednesday.
Goals from Lisandro Lopez and Ivan Leguizamon gave the Paraguayan side a 2-0 lead at halftime, but the hosts drew level shortly after the restart after Leonardo Fernandez and Maximiliano Olivera each struck in the space of five minutes.
Eric Remedi completed a remarkable turnaround by the Uruguayan club with a long-range effort after combining with Diego Garcia.
The result left Penarol second in Group H with 10 points from five outings, behind leader Velez Sarsfield on goal difference.
Velez also secured its place in the competition's knockout stage on Wednesday with a 3-0 home win over Bolivia's San Antonio.
Mauricio Carrizo converted a penalty while Michael Santos and teenager Alvaro Montoro were also on target as the Argentine outfit clinched its third win of the campaign.
In Rio de Janeiro, midfielder Artur Guimaraes struck late as defending champion Botafogo edged to a 3-2 home victory over Estudiantes.
Rwan Cruz and Igor Jesus fired the hosts to a 2-0 lead, but the Argentine side equalized courtesy of two goals in 15 minutes from Tiago Palacios.
Artur restored Botafogo's lead with a long-range effort five minutes from time as the Rio de Janeiro club kept alive its hopes of advancing to the next stage.
Elsewhere in the Copa Libertadores, Sao Paulo was held to a 1-1 home draw by Libertad, Racing Club cruised to a 4-0 home win over Colo-Colo and Atletico Nacional won 1-0 at home to Bahia. ■
